K. Shankar Shastry: Blood Donation Camp in Navi Mumbai
An interview with Shri K. Shankar Shastry, on the occasion of Blood Donation Camp organised by “Muslim Ekta Foundation” and “Kokni Vyapari Council” in association of NMMC Hospital, Blood Bank, Vashi on 26th Nov. 2018 at Vashi Railway Station, Navi Mumbai.
Shri K. Shankar Shastry: “I am proud to have donated blood 97 times till now”.
In a span of five years from 2006 to 2011 at the time of bomb blasts I have donated blood thrice. (a) 11th July 2006: Serial Bomb Blasts in Western Railway Locals. (b) 26th November 2008: Mumbai terror attacks. I was the only donor that night who donated blood at J J Hospital, Byculla. I did not care about risking my own Life for saving the life of unknown persons. (c) 13th July 2011: Bomb Blasts at Dadar, Opera house and Zhaveri Bazar. Here also, I was the one and only Donor.
I have participated in the Mega Blood Donation Camp, organized by the Shiv Sena at NSE Ground in Goregaon East on the occasion of Golden Jubilee year of Maharashtra Day, entered the Guinness Book of World Records for collecting maximum blood in a day — 25,066 bottles — at the blood donation camp.
I have also donated blood during the Gujarat Earthquake on 29th January 2000. When I was on tour in Hyderabad, I was air lifted during the earthquake but that also did not deter me from donating blood for the victims.
I have also coordinated in Conducting Blood Donation Camps in Mandir, Masjid and Church.
I also make it a point to attend around 20 to 25 Blood Donation Camps in a year in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and even beyond Ambarnath and I also try to motivate other donors for regular Blood donation at 3 months intervals. I always receive positive response from donor’s camp after camp and year after year.
I want to keep on encouraging donors for donating blood during emergency situations like bomb blasts and also situations like natural calamities. Here also, in Blood donation camp organized by “Muslim Ekta Foundation” on 26/11 every year, getting very good response from donors.
In the demand and supply of Blood, demand is more and supply is very less. All the healthy persons should make their lives “Ideal Lives”, by donating blood 3 to 4 times in a year. I personally believe that “Blood Donation is the Noblest Service Earth” because it helps in saving lives.
Also, I would like to share that, I have represented Maharashtra in the All India Blood Donation Promotion Conference in Trivandrum, for 2 days in the year 2015. The Governor of Kerala was the Chief Guest.
Last year, 2017, All India Blood Donation Promotion Conference was in Phagwara Punjab. It was for 3 days. An assembly speaker was the Chief Guest.
Once again I was Delegate from Maharashtra. It was organized by NBTC, Govt of India.
On the occasion of World Blood Donors Day: 14th June, I was invited by Doordarshan Chandana, Bangalore, half an hour program was telecasted about promoting blood donation and my services and the mission.
Same way, last year, DD News Delhi, Channel, also telecasted my interview on Blood Donation Promotion.
I’m doing my bit of Service in this Mega Blood Donation Promotion Mission.
Finally, I firmly believe that “Service to Humanity is Service to God”.
“SARVE JANAH SUKHINO BHAVANTHU” – Let everyone be happy
Thanks and regards,
K. Shankar Shastry
